Enlisted in 1941. While at Camp Pendleton, California, volunteered to join Carlson's Raider Battalion. Saw combat action at the Battles of Midway Island, Guadalcanal and Bougainville. Served with Distinction. Attended Marine Corps Officers Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia. Stationed there until the end of war.
