Activity During WWII

Specialty in message sending and receiving by radio and telephone with the 5th Assault Signal Company. Directed naval gunfire from destroyers, cruisers and battleships to enemy targets. Served mainly on Iwo Jima. On the way to Iwo Jima for three days, was assigned to monitor radio conversations between battleship USS New York BB-34 and its spotter plane, to determine what targets had been disabled by the battleship's gunfire. He still has the map he used.
