Activity During WWII

Entered service at 17 years of age on August 20, 1942. Boot Camp at Great Lakes Training Center. Served on the USS Henderson troop ship; went to Pearl Harbor. Served on the USS Minneapolis CA-36; Espiritu Santo, home port of Pearl Harbor. Served at Guadalcanal, hit when they came up on the Japanese destroyers. Two torpedoes hit the USS Minneapolis CA-36, but it was able to return to the U.S. Served on the USS Waller DD-466 to New Georgia Island, Saipan, Tinian, Guam and the Philippines. The USS Waller DD-466 was then hit by a Japanese mine on October 1945 in China on the Yangtze River. Discharged in January 1946 from Veterans hospital.
