Served from 1942 to 1945 as an ammunition bearer in I Company of the 307th Infantry of the 77th Division. Saw action in New Guinea and South Philippines and participated in invasion of Guam and Leyte. Awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Service Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars.
