Activity During WWII

Reported Missing In Action June 17, 1944. A letter received from the War Department stated: Your son was a crew member on a B-24 J aircraft which took part in a combat mission to Truk Island. Just prior to the bomb run a Japanese Zero made a head on attack and dropped two phosphorous bombs, one of which exploded just in front of your son's plane, starting a fire in the forward bomb bay. The airplane left formation losing altitude rapidly. Attempts were made to contact the damaged plane.
