Activity During WWII

Entered the U.S. Navy at age 20. Assigned to the USS New Mexico. Transferred to the USS Pennsylvania to man a 16 inch gun and serve as a printer. On December 7, 1941 the ship was docked at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Survived the attack. Served as a member of the staff of Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet. Performed printing work and helped start the fleet print shop in Pearl Harbor. Wrote for the ship's newspaper.
