Served as a fighter pilot. Flew the 'Honky Tonk Gal' in the Ploesti Invasion. During this battle his plane was shot down over Romania. Lost a leg in the accident and was taken prisoner of war. While a prisoner the Princess of Romania visited the camp and they became good friends and she visited him in Caldwell, Texas when she visited the U.S. after the war.
