Served two years in Africa and Italy. He fought at Anzio, Italy and helped liberate Rome. In April 1945, he was injured at Po River Valley, North Italy and was captured by the Germans. He was then sent to a POW camp. His right arm was amputated at an Italian Hospital. He was retired for disability.
