Gunner, Bombardier, Crew Chief, 22nd Bombardment Group, 1st Operational B-26 Squadron, 1942-1943. Based in North Australia and New Guinea. Participated in bombing Japanese Naval Targets and strongholds at Lae, Rabaul, Truk, Gasmata, Salamua, Timor, the Battle of the Coral Sea and Guadalcanal. Won the Distinguished Service Cross, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in combat.
