44th Engineer Combat Battalion. Sent to Omaha Beach 6/8/44. Was in 5 major campaigns. Held POW by the Germans until liberated by the Americans. Received Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Prisoner of War Medal, American Campaign Medal, Expert Rifleman Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Medal, Distinguished Service Medal. Unit was cited with the French Croix De Guerre with Palm. Liberated by Americans on April 29, 1945.
