Activity During WWII

Went overseas to the South Pacific on the USS President Polk AP-103 but spent most time on the USS General R.E. Callan AP-139. Drove small landing craft, taking new troops in and bringing old ones out. In on the landings at Bougainville, Guadalcanal and many other places in the Solomon Islands. Graduated out of boot camp through the Great Lakes training center in Great Lakes, Illinois. Also spent a great deal of time on the USS Crescent City AP-40. Crossed the equator several times but never received his shell back certificate. In on the repelling of enemy night torpedo-plane attacks on February 17, 1943 off San Cristobal, British Solomon Islands and again off Guadalcanal on August 13 and 14, 1943. Also the initial landing of troops at Empress Augusta Bay, Bougainville, Solomon Islands on November 1, 1943.
