Entered the service in February 1941. Carrier landing qualified aboard the USS Hornet aircraft carrier. Was in Bombing Squadron 6 aboard the carrier USS Enterprise flying the SBD Dauntless Dive Bomber aircraft. Participated in the Coral Sea battle, Battle of Midway. Served in the Central Pacific Campaigns - Marcus and Wake Islands, Palau, Hollandia, Truk, Guadalcanal. Received the Silver Star, Air Medal with Star, Navy Commendation, American Campaign, National Defense Service, Distinguished Flying Cross, Presidential Unit Citation, American Defense, Victory Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 6 Stars.
