Army Air Corps, 398th Squadron, 504th Bomb Group. Flew 27 combat missions over Japan as a B-29 Navigator. In one incident his B-29 was shot up badly and crash landed at Iwo Jima. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross and 3 Air Medals.
