Entered in 1942 at 17 years old. Served aboard the USS Breckenridge and then on the USS Bunker Hill CV-17 in the South Pacific until the end of the war in 1945. Trained as a gunner and also flew in PBY aircraft. Recalls dramatic war stories to his family of Kamikaze attacks, watching Japanese 'Betty's' on nightly bombing attempts and life threatening carrier landings with often deadly outcomes.
