Served as a heavy mortar crewman from 1942 to 1945 in Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Southern France and Rhineland areas with the 2nd Chemical Mortar 4.2 Battalion, Company B (Red Dragon). He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 6 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead and the WWII Victory Medal.
