Inducted at age 18, went through basic training at Camp Hood, Killeen Texas. Shipped out to Hawaii from Fort Ord, California. Served in the 7th Division and was sent to Saipan and Okinawa; replacement troop in battle of Okinawa on 19th birthday. Radioman; platoon sent up Conical Hill to take it -- only 7 returned.
