Served 1944 to 1945 as a front line medic in the 126th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Division in the Pacific Theater on Luzon, Philippine Islands. Helped the wounded or sick; performed first aid on the front lines. Operated in very rough forested terrain. Awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Medical Badge, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 1 Battle Star, Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 Battle Star, Good Conduct and the WWII Victory Medal. Awarded the Purple Heart on May 9, 2002 for wounds received in June 1945 in the Battle of Leyte.
