Joined the service in August 1943. Trained at Naval Training Station (NTS) in Newport, Rhode Island. Served as a gunner on convoy duty in both Theaters. Served on the SS Abangarez, SS Algic, SS Coal Dale Victory and the SS Golden Rocket. While on the SS Abangarez, the convoy came under attack on May 11, 1944 by German U-boats and aircraft. Awarded a Bronze Star and authorized to wear it upon the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal. Also awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, Philippine Liberation, WWII Victory and the American Campaign medals. Honorably discharged December 16, 1945.
