Activity During WWII

While stationed at Nichols Field in the Philippines, was taken as a Prisoner Of War by the enemy when the Philippines surrendered. Survived the infamous Bataan Death March and then had to work in various labor groups. Transferred to Japan where he was forced to work in a coal mine for two years. He survived inhumane conditions. After Japan surrendered, the Japanese guards abandoned their prisoners forcing them to find their way to American positions on their own. This trip was made possible with the aid of friendly Japanese civilians who kindly assisted them.
