Served as a celestial navigator flying B-24 aircraft in the 13th Air Force. Far East Pacific Theater of Operations. While flying a bombing mission on a Japanese target in the Philippines, his plane was damaged and lagged behind the formation. Japanese fighters attacked his crippled plane forcing the crew to bail out. While in his parachute, the Japanese fighter pilots killed him.
