In the early part of the war, served in the Aleutian Islands in charge of the base service unit taking care of the general work for PBY planes. Then he served in air combat intelligence with Navy Observation Fighter Squadron and was involved with the invasions of Southern France, the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He served under Admiral William Bringle.
