Activity During WWII

Part of a carrier escort group, as a gunner's mate. Served on a destroyer that was sunk by a Japanese torpedo. He and four other sailors were the only survivors of the ship; remained in the Pacific Ocean for five days and were all frozen from the waist down. Received the Congressional Medal of Valor.
