Assigned to USS PC-1265, a patrol and submarine chaser craft which served in the North Atlantic and Caribbean. He operated the sonar, which was used to detect submarines. If contacts were made, then a depth charge run would be made and depth charges dropped overboard to destroy the submarine. The patrol craft were known as the 'bucking broncos' of the sea.
