Served in the 101st Division, 502nd Parachute Regiment, Company A, 193rd Infantry Glider. Wounded in the Battle of the Bulge on January 7, 1945 in which he lost his leg. Died at the age of 39 on July 22, 1949, due to the injury. Received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, American Campaign medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with 1 bronze service star. Also awarded the Good Conduct and the Victory medals.
