Activity During WWII

Enlisted on January 18, 1945 in Sampson, New York Boot Camp. Shipped to U.S. Navy Training and Distribution Center in Shoemaker, California by troop train. Stopped in Pearl Harbor on the way to Ulithi Islands. 5 days later, assigned to the USS Tennessee BB-43, in shelling of Okinawa. Transferred to unclassified tanker called the USS Moose IX-124. Left Okinawa, Japan on December 26, 1945 and traveled for 37 days to the Panama Canal; then to Newport News, Virginia and transferred to the USS Robert I. Paine DE-578 for 2-4 months. Discharged on July 2, 1946.
