Served as a Corsair fighter pilot. Earned the American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Air Medal with 4 Gold Stars and the WWII Victory Medal. Was part of the squadron that was the first to do a carrier plane raid from the USS Langley on Tokyo, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Personally credited with the destruction of 2 enemy planes and a cargo ship.
