Trained in Infantry in Camp Robinson, Alaska. After Pearl Harbor attack, went to Fort Ord, California. Was in one of the first ships sent to Australia, New Guinea area. Served in the ship and gun crew on the Dutch ship, Bontekoe. Carried troops, fuel and ammunition from place to place in that area. Returned to the South Pacific after V-E Day on May 8, 1945. Discharged on August 8, 1945.
