Graduated from high school in 1939, at the height of the depression and could only find menial jobs. Drafted in 1942. Served in France at Normandy. Reported missing on September 25, 1944. Word was received that he had been killed on October 10, 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the French Legion Medal of Honor posthumously. He also had three brothers that served.
