Went in as a replacement after the D-Day, June 6th invasion of occupied France, with a life expectancy of some few weeks and lasted some few months before being wounded in France. In a murky tale of battle, he was awarded the Bronze Star and later the Purple Heart. A stronger patriot never walked the earth.
