Joined Navy September 1942. Served on the PC-1123. Sent to Brisbane, Australia and worked in shipyard repairing damaged ships. Came back to U.S. in January 1945 and worked in Quincy, Massachusetts shipyards. While there went to deep sea diving school to weld under water at Brooklyn Naval Yard. Worked on USS Columbus and went on its shakedown cruise to Cuba. Was on it going through Panama Canal, arrived home 12/26/45. Found out later than he and his brother Thomas were both at the landing on New Britain, about 3 miles apart, but didn't know it until they got home.
