Served in the Navy in the Pacific from 1943 to 1946 as a Storekeeper 2nd class. Received the Victory Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Star. During the invasion of Tarawa aboard the USS Acorn Number 14, he helped establish the Naval Air Base Number 824 in the Gilbert Islands. Maintained a warehouse of parts for the automotive and stationary engines in the Kwajalein and Marshall Islands.
