Activity During WWII

Trained as rifleman at Camp Robinson, Arkansas. Started January 17, 1945. In June he was sent to San Francisco to go to Luzon, Philippine Islands. It took 33 days on ship to get there. He was there 4 months before the war ended. They lived in tents. Went to an island named Leyte to train for the invasion. Did guard duty and patrol on Luzon. On September 2, 1945 they were the 1st crew in after the bomb was dropped on Japan. They were the 2nd ship to dock at Yokohama. MacArthur was General over the 43rd Division. Medals received were the Good Conduct medal, 7th Cavalry Medal, Combat Infantryman Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon for Luzon.
