Entered in 1942; trained at Camp Wolters, Texas and Fort Benning, Georgia. Served in Africa, Sicily, Italy, and Holland. Was awarded the European Theater of Operations with 6 battle stars, Good Conduct Medal, European Medal, oak leaf cluster, and two Purple Hearts. Was wounded in Sicily and France and was awarded the bronze star.
