Trained at Fort Warren, Wyoming; Camp Funsten, Kansas and in tents in the desert around Tuscon. Nicknamed 'father' because he was 28 years old. Served in Africa and London. 1st Sergeant in charge of radio communications. Landed on Utah Beach on June 14. Involved in the Battle of the Bulge; crossed the Rhine on the Remagen Bridge. Ended up at the 'Wolf's Lair' in Berchtesgaden. Awarded the Bronze Star.
