Immediately following the declaration of war in 1941, she became the neighborhood Air Raid Warden, learning to recognize the silhouettes of all planes. Responsible for all the houses in her allotted area. She would be out in the pitch black during the practice raids checking to make sure it was done right. Grew large victory garden in the neighborhood producing more than enough for her family of six and leftovers to share with others. Kept a complete scrapbook of the war and prayed for all every day. A very patriotic woman.
