Activity During WWII

Assigned as Radio Technician, Electronic Technician's Mate on USS Kaskaskia working for the Commanding Officer. Earned 7 Battle Stars. Maintained radio, radar, Identification, Fire Control, Signal Watches, published newspaper (Voice Press +). Transported bunkers black, aviation gas (140,000 gallons) oxygen, breathing. Moved supplies from Ulithi to Third and Fifth fleets. Off Japan when the atomic bombs were dropped. Went to Tokyo Bay, Kirun Harbor to sweep mines from Formosa Straits (only tanker to earn minesweeping citation). Down Yangste River, Whangpoo River to Shanghai. Onto Hong Kong as station tanker for U.S., British and French. Home by transport in May 1946.
