ASSIGNED TO 100TH TROOP CARRIER SQUADRON, 441TH TROOP CARRIER GROUP, 9TH TROOP CARRIER COMMAND. CO-PILOT OF C-47A WHICH DROPPED ELEMENTS OF THE 508TH PARACHUTE INFANTRY REGIMENT, 82ND AIRBORNE DIVISION INTO HOLLAND DURING OPERATION MARKET GARDEN ON SEPTEMBER 17, 1944. KILLED IN ACTION WHEN AIRCRAFT CRASHED AT END OF DROP ZONE AFTER PARATROOPS EXITED BURNING AIRCRAFT WHICH WAS HIT BY HEAVY ENEMY FLAK. ALSO DROPPED ELEMENTS OF THE 508TH PARACHUTE INFANTRY REGIMENT, 82ND AIRBORNE DIVISION THE NIGHT OF JUNE 5, 1944 INTO NORMANDY, FRANCE FOR OPERATION OVERLORD.
