Served as a Medic with the Medical Detachment, 18th Infantry Regiment, First Infantry Division, January 9, 1940 to August 8, 1945. Participated in 'Operation Torch' the invasion of North Africa as well as the Tunisian Campaign. Participated in the invasion of Sicily then was transported to Dorchester, England. Participated in 'Operation Overlord' the invasion of Normandy D-Day landing at Omaha Beach in the second wave. The Division spearheaded the attack on St. Lo and proceeded to the Aachen State Forest. The fighting continued becoming known as the Battle of the Bulge. The Division penetrated the Siegfried line at Steinbach in January 1945 and crossed the Roer River in February 1945. In March 1945 the Division captured Bonn, Germany and then crossed the Rhine. Shifted into the Third Army, and the 1st Division was sent to the Czechoslovakian border in April 1945. On May 7, 1945 the Division liberated the Falkenau Concentration Camp in Czechoslovakia. Windsor returned to the U.S. on August 8, 1945.
